Software Engineer - Backend
Own the services behind booking, dispatch, payments and payouts — and the AWS and Kubernetes platform they run on.
- Location
- Bangalore, India
- Workplace
- On-site
- Type
- Full-time
- Experience
- 1–2 years
The role
Own the backend systems that make a home-care visit work end to end: from service discovery and booking through provider matching, visit completion, payment, and payout. You will help shape and operate services across AWS and Kubernetes as Jopana grows, while keeping the system secure, observable, and straightforward to run.
What you will do
- Design and build APIs and domain services for booking, provider onboarding and availability, dispatch, live tracking, payments, provider wallets, payouts, refunds, and marketplace operations.
- Build reliable transactional workflows, including idempotent payment and booking operations, webhook handling, retries, reconciliation, and background processing where appropriate.
- Model data in PostgreSQL; write and tune queries, indexes, migrations, and transaction boundaries as product usage grows.
- Build and operate containerized services on AWS and Kubernetes, including deployment configuration, health checks, resource requests and limits, service discovery, secrets, and safe rollouts.
- Use AWS services appropriately for application hosting, networking, identity and access, storage, monitoring, and managed data services; automate infrastructure changes with Terraform or an equivalent tool.
- Own the backend delivery path: maintain CI/CD checks and deployment workflows, keep environments reproducible, and make releases observable and reversible.
- Set up service and database monitoring, logs, alerts, and runbooks; help respond to incidents and turn lessons into reliability improvements.
- Protect sensitive account and care-related data through careful authorization, data minimization, audit trails, secure defaults, and safe handling of logs and support tooling.
- Instrument important workflows so the team can see latency, failures, and business outcomes; take part in incident follow-up and improve the system based on what you learn.
- Work with product, operations, and client engineers to turn real care-delivery problems into well-scoped software.
What you bring
- Around 1–2 years of relevant professional experience, with strong TypeScript and Node.js fundamentals and evidence of delivering production-quality backend work.
- Practical hands-on AWS and Kubernetes experience, including containerizing, deploying, debugging, and operating services. Experience with Amazon EKS is especially relevant; be ready to explain what you operated and how you handled failures.
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, especially PostgreSQL, including schema design, transactions, and query performance.
- Experience designing secure REST APIs, authentication and authorization, integrations, and robust handling of third-party webhooks.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD, Docker, infrastructure-as-code, service monitoring, secrets management, and production debugging.
- A practical approach to testing, migrations, code review, incident follow-up, and clear written communication; able to own a feature from design through rollout and support.
Helpful experience
- Marketplaces, healthcare or other sensitive-data products, payments, scheduling, dispatch, geospatial workflows, or real-time systems.
- Supabase, Kysely or another typed SQL toolkit, Zod, Redis, queues, and event-driven processing.
- Terraform or OpenTofu or Pulumi, AWS networking and IAM, EKS operations, Helm, and infrastructure observability.
- LLM-backed product features, including evaluation, privacy-aware data flows, and operational monitoring.
Shared expectations
- You care about building trustworthy software for people arranging care at home.
- You take ownership while working collaboratively, ask for feedback early, and make tradeoffs visible.
- You value privacy, accessibility, reliability, and respectful treatment of patients and providers.
- You keep learning and help the team adopt tools and practices when they solve a real problem.
